We are thrilled to have renowned dance champion, coach, choreographer, and event director John Lindo as our guest instructor on Saturday, September 21st. The event will be held at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church with 3 afternoon workshops. John will then lead a fun pre-dance lesson. Mark your calendars and be sure to attend this great event!

John Lindo (Houston) is an invaluable presence at West Coast Swing Dance events – from international conventions to regional workshops. John teaches, judges, coaches, choreographs, and is one of the most sought-after DJs on the circuit. But all of that pales in comparison to the way John consistently wows crowds with his exciting and entertaining competitive dancing.

John is the co-founder and owner of Liberty Swing Dance Championships, one of the top events in the U.S., along with having a hand in other regional events around the country. He is the recipient of numerous awards and acknowledgments, and is also very active on the oversight side, serving on boards for NASDE, WSDC and Gotham Swing Club. 1:30-2:30 pm: Workshop #1: The Judges Eye

Whether you’re a seasoned competitor in search of tips to shine in front of the judges, or someone who is interested in entering your very first competition—this class is for you! What do judges want to see? How can you stand out? How is competitive dancing different than social dancing? John will share his perspective from decades of experience competing, judging, and coaching.

2:30-2:45 pm: Break. Check in/Warm up.

2:45-3:45 pm: Workshop #2: Hot New Moves

Spice up the dance floor with John’s favorite hot new pattern!

3:45-4:00 pm: Break. Check in/Warm up.

4:00-5:00 pm: Workshop #3: Anchors Away!

The anchor gives west coast swing its famous smooth, elastic, groovy look and feel. John will help us all master this important step, and then teach us some fun variations to really elevate our dancing.

5:00-7:00 pm: Dinner break. Please note the church will be closed during this time.

There are many restaurants less than 15 minutes from the church. Stonefield: Mezeh, BJ Brewhouse, Qdoba, Noodles & Company, Mission BBQ, plus many others; Hollymead Town Center: Bonefish, Five Guys, Vinny’s, Timberwood Grill, McDonald’s, plus many others. Plus each has grocery stores such as Harris Teeter and Trader Joes.

7:00-8:00 pm: Lesson – Hot new pattern to spice up your dancing! We recommend attendees have some previous West Coast Swing experience with the basic figures and timing.

8:00-10:30 pm: Dance: featuring John Lindo as DJ spinning the hottest tunes on the WCS circuit

Pre-registration opens Monday, August 19 and closes Thursday, September 19 at noon.

For the best price we encourage all dancers who wish to attend this amazing day of dance to pre-register. The pre-registration package and workshop prices will NOT be available at the door.

Skill Requirement

Participation in these workshops requires a solid working knowledge and the skills to dance all basic patterns (starter step, side passes, pushes, whip) with good timing, on your own and with a partner.
